Pieces of Hope event, 2009 Carol Westlake, executive director, Tennessee Disability Coalition, with Leisa A. Hammett. Carol purchased "Ribbon," the featured (GraceArt) piece, (pictured in background,) at the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee's 2009 "Pieces of Hope" silent auction. (See a more detailed view of "Ribbon" in 2006 Gallery.) "Ribbon" was originally purchased by Grace's maternal grandfather for Grace's maternal grandmother's 85th birthday. Dorothy Ruth Walker Hammett, died two years later, enabling GraceArt to donate "Ribbon," per request, as the featured piece at ASMT's benefit. It garnered the nonprofit organization $475. More about the piece and benefit here, featured on Nashville television news. (Photo by Howard T. Ezell) *Grace has attempted portraiture sporadically since she was five. Sometimes her attempts are more obvious than others. Her attempts are spontaneous and not directed by her teacher.
Hannah Maxwell Rowell of The Tennessee Renaissance Center served as Grace's private art teacher during 2009. ("Ribbon was created in 2006. Details here.)
